Dean and Son: Endless Mirth

Illustrated Review Jan 1 1874
Dean & Son operated a juvenile printing and publishing house on Fleet Street, from 1947. The firm was one of the most successful for its early use of chromolithography in their Embossed Chromo toy-books. In 1892 Dean’s movable toy-books attracted the attention of toymakers in Vienna and Berlin. Cheap toy-books were first produced in England by Jemmy Catnach, late of the Seven Dials, at his Toy-Book Manufactory, and Johnny Pitts, of the Toy and Marble Warehouse.
